59 More Reasons Why I Love Israel by Barbara Sofer
1. ABC's Good Morning America chose Jerusalem as one of the Seven Wonders of the world, and they were right. 2. There's more to unearth. King David was the first king to rule Jerusalem, but his palace was only revealed in the City of David this year. 3. JNF forest rangers remained in the forests to put out fires while Katyushas were falling. 4. Twenty-five thousand volunteers helped replant the forests that did burn. 5. Six thousand spunky Israelis who left their homes during the war pretended they were vacationing on the beach. 6. While Intel Haifa workers were working in an underground shelter, Intel announced the new multi-core processor developed there. 7. During the Lebanon War, a northern kids' butterfly center was moved to Tel Aviv. 8. Russian-speaking immigrants in the Haifa shelters offered hospitality to the American tourists who came to show solidarity. 9. We ask tourists why they don't move here (even when the bombs are falling). 10. Banners on tourist buses reveal where the tourists hail from because we care.... One-Sided Concessions to Terror Will Bring More Terror by Natan Sharansky
Israel again and again and again showed that the moment there was some very small, illusory hope for peace, they were ready to go ahead for all kinds of concessions....But I believe that one-sided concessions to terror will bring more terror. (Chicago Tribune)
Bishara Betrayed his Own - Israeli Arabs by Khaled Abu Toameh
He is no different than those who dispatch suicide bombers. The leaders will fight to the last soldier, but are never prepared to make personal sacrifices. Bishara ran away as soon as he realized that he could spend many years behind bars. On an optimistic note, Bishara's case could serve as a wake-up call for Israel's Arab citizens, many of whom may finally realize that schmoozing with such dubious figures as Nasrallah and Assad does not serve their interests. U.S. Taxpayers Subsidize Terrorist Propaganda and Holocaust Denial in the Arab World by Joel Mowbray
Al-Hurra, the U.S. taxpayer-financed Arab TV network, carried Nasrallah's 68-minute Dec. 7 speech live. Al-Hurra covered the Holocaust denial conference in Tehran last December, treating Iranian President Ahmadinejad and the attendees at his conference with unmistakable deference. Al-Hurra's Dec. 12 report on the gathering included David Duke's praise for Ahmadinejad. Also broadcast unchallenged were the remarks of French Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson, who informed Arab viewers: "Gas chambers and mass killings of the Jews, in the way that it is pretended (by the Jews), is completely untrue, and an historical lie." In closing the piece, the Al-Hurra reporter referred to Israel as "the Jewish state on Palestinian lands." (Wall Street Journal)

The Next Mideast War? by David Makovsky
The causes of last year's war with Hizbullah in Lebanon still exist - and may spark another conflagration. Israel resorted to military action last July largely because the UN did nothing to implement Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1680 which made clear that Hizbullah should disband and be disarmed. The end of the war led to the passage of Security Council Resolution 1701, which called for an international embargo to prevent weaponry from entering Lebanon, a provision which has not been met. It has been widely reported that arms from Syria are being smuggled into Lebanon. The international community should agree to follow up Resolution 1701 with one involving the deployment of UN peacekeeping troops on the Syrian-Lebanese border. Arabian Delusions by Zalman Shoval
Peace between the wider Arab world and the Jewish state is not impossible. A general Arab-Israeli detente, including steps that would benefit everyone in the region, would create the climate for eventually moving the Palestinian problem toward an equitable solution based on mutual compromise. Israel under all its leaders has been ready to compromise. If only the Arabs, including the Palestinians, would abandon all-or-nothing delusions. (Washington Times)
Misreading Arab-Israeli Diplomacy by Dore Gold
The Mecca Agreement created a fusion between the alleged moderate branch of the PA headed by Fatah leader Abbas, and Hamas that maintains links with the Muslim Brotherhood. But it did not forge a new common stance of renouncing violence, recognizing Israel, or firmly committing all Palestinian parties to previous peace agreements, as the international community has demanded.
